Recent Work
Beginning in 2023, I began experimenting with generative AI as a tool in my digital collage, mixed-media encaustic painting process. I love the back and forth and winding paths that this highly iterative tool provides: In considering creative prompts or receiving the imperfect and unexpected when uploading my photography and other visual ephemera for AI to “consider” (if you can call it that). Using Photoshop, I import the “parts and pieces” from the generative imagery (a hat, a shoe, a bird, a cloud, etc) - along with my own photography or found images - to reconstruct, assemble and create new digital collages. When complete, the collages are printed out using archival ink/paper, painted on with mixed-media and encaustic paint, and then carved and buffed to create shadow, dimension, luminosity and shine (see demonstration video below).
